As part of our Native American Heritage Month programming, we will explore a day in the life of indigenous peoples in central CT. This program presented by Nowashe Village specifically highlights the foodways and material culture of the Woodland Period (c. 3,000-400 years ago). Some highlights include: how indigenous peoples used the natural resources around them, how gender roles were divided, and how they hunted and prepared food.
Nowashe Village in South Windsor is an Indigenous Peoples Museum which maintains some 20,000 artifacts now displayed, preserved and used for educational purposes by the Friends of Wood Memorial Library & Museum.
