Learn about the unique art form of scrimshaw, which was born aboard whaling ships in the 1800s. Discover what elements in the lives of whalemen at sea helped them develop the art of scrimshaw. Understand how artists today still carry on the tradition of scrimshaw, but in an environmentally responsible way.
Kids will have an opportunity to create their own piece of scrimshaw to take home.
For ages 8 and up. Space is limited – registration is required.
